== History ==
The airline was established as an arm of the [[Argentine Air Force]] in {{start date|1940|9}} to service unprofitable routes to remote areas.<ref name="Flight1960-503" /> It was initially known as ''Líneas Aéreas Suroeste'' and consolidated under the present title in 1945 with another air force branch, ''Líneas Aéreas Noreste''.<ref name="FI">{{cite news | title= Directory: World Airlines | work= [[Flight International]] | page= 104 | date= 2007-04-03}}</ref> By {{start date|1960|4}}, [[DC-3]]s, [[DC-4]]s and [[Vickers VC.1 Viking|Vikings]] made up LADE's fleet.<ref name="Flight1960-503" />

At March 1970, LADE had 150 employees and its fleet consisted of 14 DC-3s, two DC-4s, three [[Douglas DC-6|DC-6s]] and six [[de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter]]s.<ref name="FI1970" /> The carrier started regular flights between [[Comodoro Rivadavia]] and the [[Falkland Islands]] in 1972.<ref name="El nuevo laborismo preocupa en Malvinas" /><ref name="FI1980-326" /> The Comodoro Rivadavia–[[Port Stanley]] run was initially operated with [[Fokker F27 Friendship|F27]] equipment. At {{start date|1980|7}}, the airline had a fleet of 11 F27s (five F27-600s and six F27-400Ms) five [[Fokker F28 Fellowship|Fokker F28-1000C]]s and seven Twin Otters.<ref name="FI1980-326" /> Ten years later, at {{start date|1990|3}}, the fleet had grown to include five Fokker F28-1000Cs, 13 F27s (six F27-400Ms, two F27-500s and five F27-600s), one [[Lockheed L-100 Hercules|Lockheed L-100-30]] and seven Twin Otters.<ref name="FI1990-105" />
