Idstone is a hamlet in the civil parish of Ashbury in the Vale of White Horse. Idstone was part of Berkshire until the 1974 boundary changes transferred the Vale of White Horse to Oxfordshire. Idstone is about 6 miles (10 km) east of Swindon in neighbouring Wiltshire.
Archaeology

History
Idstone's toponym has evolved from the Old English Edwineston in the 12th century through Edyston and Edwiston in the 15th century, Edston in the 16th century and Idston, Hidston, Geston or Jeston in the 17th century.Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'Module:Footnotes/anchor_id_list' not found.
