Psyclones

Psyclones is an experimental industrial band started in 1980 with core members Brian Ladd and Julie Frith. Their first recordings were made at home, by bouncing tapes back and forth on standard cassette decks, overdubbing new sounds on top. The band was very prolific and sent demo cassettes to record labels they admired. Their diligence paid off, as their first vinyl album was released on the San Francisco punk label Subterranean Records in 1985. Subsequent vinyl albums were released internationally. All the while, Brian and Julie were busy creating their own label, Ladd-Frith. The LF label was one of the original Cassette Culture labels of the early 1980's and has released over 100 projects, including albums by artists like Blackhouse, Controlled Bleeding, Vivenza and Mr Bungle to name just a few. Throughout the 1980's and 1990's, Brian and Julie were also popular figures on many cassette / LPs /industrial music / noise compilations. The duo is also notable for their promotion/media/record review/opinion outlet Objekt. Objekt started as a small indy fanzine, then it became a radio show on the Pacifica Network and finally, an independent public access television show.
